According to Tuesday's publication of the Sun-Sentinel, a Coral Springs, Fla., man is in jail for allegedly attacking and severely injuring, a German shepherd puppy.
The man accused of the brutal attack on a four-month-old puppy is 26-year-old Juan Camilo Florez.
Florez, who claims to be a criminal justice student, allegedly punched the puppy, named "Toby," in the face, fracturing the pup's jaw. Florez is then accused of picking up the puppy and hurling him against a wall.
Florez claimed that he was bitten on the finger by the puppy.
In court, Broward Judge John "Jay" Hurley read from an arrest report:
You allegedly picked up the German shepherd puppy of four months and threw him against a wall,"
They said the dog actually defecated after he was slammed into the wall.
Police who responded to Florez's residence noted that there was blood splatter from the puppy on the walls and the floor.
Toby survived the vicious attack and remains under veterinary care at the Coral Springs Animal Hospital, where an exam revealed old injuries which were likely the result of prior abuse.
Judge Hurley stated:
There is a pattern of violence with you and other people and now an animal,
This was not an isolated incident. It looks like you abused this puppy a number of times and he's only four months old."
Florez has been charged, on more than one occasion, with domestic violence; prior charges were later dropped.
