Florida Lakes Symphony presents 'Gypsy Serenade' on Feb. 16 in Mount Dora

Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra returns to Mount Dora to perform their fourth concert of Season 7 with “Gypsy Serenade,” a musical journey back to 19th-century European countryside inspired by Russian, Hungarian and Romanian folklore.  From fiery marches and traditional dances to folk songs and haunting rhapsodies, “Gypsy Serenade” promises to be a spirited and lively concert that will have you dancing in your seat.  Join the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra this week in Mount Dora and Groveland for “Gypsy Serenade.”

The Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, now in its 7th season, is comprised of 60 musicians from around the world who perform throughout the year at a number of venues but mainly Saint Patrick’s Church in Mount Dora and South Lake High School in Groveland.  Once again leading the 60-piece orchestra is our conductor Michael J. Garasi who infuses his charisma and lively personality into every stroke of his baton. Plus, Concert Master virtuoso violinist Konstantin Dimitrov, who has performed with world-renowned musicians including Andrea Bocelli, will be our Gypsy soloist leading many of the program’s selections.

“Gypsy Serenade” is a collection of timeless eastern European classics and includes: the romantic Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt; Enesco’s Romanian Rhapsody inspired by Romanian folklore; Dinicu’s spirited “Hora Staccato,” a virtuoso violin showpiece inspired by Russian dancing; Slavic and Hungarian dances by Brahms, Dvorak, Berlioz and others.

“Our ‘Gypsy Serenade’ is a marvel of violin virtuosity!  Konstantin will be in his element—our Bulgarian and Romanian orchestra members are of course very excited and happy to perform these fabulous works,” said Audrey Sanders, co-founder of the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra with her late husband Guy Saint-Clair.

“Gypsy Serenade” will be performed in on Thursday, Feb. 16 at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 6803 Old Highway 441 South (Highland St.) in Mount Dora, and the South Lake concert on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at the South Lake High School, 15600 Silver Eagle Rd. in Groveland.  Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $42 in advance and $45 at the door.  Students are $15.  Group tickets are also available.  Advance tickets can be purchased by sending a check to FLSO, 2034 Bayside Ave., Mount Dora, FL 32757.  For more information, call 352-589-1500 or visit FloridaLakesSymphonyOrchestra.com.
