Classical, Swing, and Dixieland music is enlivening the Middle and Upper Keys this winter. Toes are tapping with two big season openers, just a week apart. The Dukes of Dixieland perform today, Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7: 30 p.m. in Islamorada at the Island Community Church (mile marker (MM) 83.3). The Dukes are to perform the classic repertoire of Jazz and New Orleans music for which they have been world famous for decades. TRhe Dukes played last night Jan. 21, at the Marathon High School Performing Arts Center, to rave reviews.

Next week, again on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 28 and 29, at 7:30 p.m., the Glenn Miller Orchestra comes to the Florida Keys. “Moonlight Serenade” and “In the Mood” are just two of the familiar tunes that evoke happy memories.

There will be six concerts and the cost for a season ticket is $85 for all six. The final concert will feature a world premiere by a superb living composer.

The Florida Keys Concert Association (FLKCA), a non-profit volunteer group, works all year to make this series happen. Thanks to individual and community business contributors, for less than the price of one ticket to a concert in Miami, $85, Florida Keys residents and winter visitors can buy a season ticket and hear all six concerts, a program including Fred Moyer, pianist extraordinaire, on Feb. 11 and 12, An Evening of Opera Highlights, Feb. 25 and 26, the Jupiter String Quartet, March 11 and 12, and the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra March 16 and 18, playing the brand-new composition titled “Islamorada, (Purple Island)” by Miguel del Aguila, whose works have been nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Individual ticket prices for the first two concerts are $40 each. The remaining four concerts are $25 each. Season tickets, by far the best buy at $85, can still be purchased at The Key Largo Art Gallery (MM 103), Artamorada at The Rain Barrel (MM 86.9), and at Food for Thought (MM 58) in Marathon, or at the door. Double-check the venue because some Marathon concerts are held at The San Pablo Church (MM 52). All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
