Ticket holders to this year’s Florida Keys Concert Association events are already calling 2013 the best season ever. The first four concerts were enthusiastically received. Two strong concerts remain. Each promises to satisfy the most discerning classical music fans.
The Jupiter String Quartet visits the Keys March 11 and 12. It performed works by Mozart, Haydn, Wolf and Dvorak in Marathon at San Pablo Church Monday, March 11, and plays this evening in Islamorada at the Island Community Church (mile marker 83.3 bayside). Tickets are available.
Four days later is the grand finale of the season featuring The Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, with extraordinary piano soloist Gabriela Imreh. Imreh will provide a special climactic touch to this season. In addition to presenting works by J.S. Bach and Mendelssohn, the Virtuosi will treat concertgoers to a world premiere of a piece by internationally recognized composer Miguel del Aguila. The composition for solo piano and string orchestra is titled, most appropriately, “Islamorada (Purple Island) Op. 106.” What better place for its first performance than Island Community Church in Islamorada? The premiere will take place Saturday, March 16. Two days later, Monday, March 18, the Virtuosi will perform the same program in Marathon.
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m., and individual concert tickets are available for $25 at Food For Thought in Marathon, Artamorada Gallery (MM 86.3) or the Key Largo Art Gallery (MM 103) or at the door. An added bonus for coming to the next two concerts will be the announcement of the 2014 season artists and the opportunity to buy tickets at Early Bird prices -- $85 for six concerts!
