Florida hot air balloon crash sends passengers to trauma center: Patriots WR

Yesterday a plane crashed into a parking lot just outside a Fort Lauderdale airport killing all three passengers and today, two people were rushed to a regional trauma center after a hot air balloon crashed in Homestead, Florida according to Miami-Dade police.

NBC reports that the passenger basket of a hot air balloon crashed into power lines while airborne Saturday morning. There were three passengers aboard.

Following the accident, two of the three passengers were taken by air to Kendall Regional Medical Center’s trauma center.

It is reported that free agent wide receiver Donte' Stallworth and his girlfriend were the two passengers that were injured. The Patriots are considering resigning Stallworth but nothing is certain as of yet.

It was less than three weeks ago that a hot air balloon accident took the lives of 19 tourists in Egypt. The balloon caught fire and crashed near the ancient Egyptian town of Luxor after a mid-air gas explosion. It has not been determined whether it was caused by maintenance or human error as of yet.

Hot air balloon accidents seem to be a rare occurrence but with warmer weather approaching, the industry has to be a little worried and the tourists probably are too.

If you are considering going on a hot air balloon ride, do a little homework first. How long a company has been in business is usually a good indicator of customer service, safety and how well the business is being run. Companies that have been in business a long time must be paying attention to detail and providing good service.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for references from clients. Your safety is the utmost importance so it’s worth asking. If the company balks at your request and you hire them anyway, then "Here's your sign."
