Looking for some free holiday fun? Then grab your family and friends and head over to Lake Eola for two evenings of seasonal events.
Friday, December 6, is the lighting of the official Orlando Christmas tree at Lake Eola by Mayor Buddy Dyer, along with a presentation of the Trinity Evangelical Church show called “The Gift.” The concert includes a choir of 100 voices celebrating the season. There will also be a food truck bazaar, a Christmas Village around the lake filled with gifts and goodies, and a free showing of the animated version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” on a large outdoor screen. Stroll around the lake and enjoy street entertainers including traditional Christmas handbell choirs, soloists, quartets and Gospel choirs. Festivities start at 4:00 p.m. with the tree lighting ceremony at 6:15 p.m.
Then on Saturday, December 7, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. join celebrities from WKMG, Local 6, for the fifth annual “Angel Tree Holiday Concert” at the Walt Disney Amphitheater at Lake Eola Park. The concert features the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra and includes three full orchestras and one string orchestra. This year’s presentation will also include the Central Florida Community Choir, featuring over three hundred singers from all over Florida. Saturday’s festivities will include Santa for the kiddies, the Salvation Army Band and snacks/refreshments will be sold with all proceeds going to the Angel Tree Program. Admission if free, but donation of toys or cash will be accepted. Salvation Army's Angel Tree program matches donors with children from qualified families unable to provide gifts and clothing during the holiday season.
