Amazing place with swampland, well marked trails, and no fee to enter the park. The preserve is located at 4334 Firetower Road in Haines City in Florida. As of October 1, 2013 it was open from 8 am until sunset and no admission fee to drive in. There was a $5/night fee for camping. Camping arrangements could be made through the Lake Kissimmee State Park office at (863) 696-1112.
The site has fishing, geocaching, hiking, horseback riding trails, picnic facilities, and a multitude of wildlife. Hiking on the 6 miles of hiking trails or riding on the 7 miles of horse trails one can see pygmy fringe tree, scrub jays, bald eagles, gopher tortoises, lizards, and much more.
Please make sure to bring bug spray, water, and a snack to help keep your blood sugar up because there is no facilities convenient along the area. Even the camping is only very primitive. The two sites seem very wild and not at all developed. The picnic sites are only at the parking lot and again are small and lack amenities.
