Florida economy is improving

The Florida economy is picking up and this means better prospects for people seeking work. Initial claims for unemployment compensation in Florida fell 25 percent in December to 4,655 from 6,239 a year ago, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Florida's unemployment rate declined in December to 8 percent compared to 9.9 percent a year ago, according to an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the January 29 Sun Sentinel.

"This is good. I am glad that more people are getting back to work," said Brandy Hogge, a resident of Miami.
