Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee's lost it's capricious - almost racist, attack on the Democratic Black Caucus citing violations of the Democratic Party's "Loyalty Oath", a document that met with significant challenge by the Attorney General, Jim Smith in 1983.
"In summary, the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida is not authorized by statute to require an oath of party loyalty on the part of a candidate for party nomination for election to public office as a prerequisite to qualification by said candidate for such nomination and election." - Jim Smith
ACDEC leadership assaults on the Alachua County Black caucus went emotionally ballistic after Republican, Ed Braddy defeated incumbent and openly Gay Mayor, Craig Lowe. The fact that Gainesville commission races have been historically non-partisan seemed not to matter to the ACDEC leadership of vengeful zealots.
Despite the election result numbers, the ACDEC leadership has continued to deny that many democrats voted for Braddy because of Craig Lowe's failure to confront the fiscally irresponsible $3 billion biomass power purchase agreement that is forcing the largest electric rate-hike in Gainesville's history and has recently revealed it's operation to be a public health hazard as a source of toxic noise and dust emissions.
