Hike this Florida trail. As you are hiking here along the Shoreline of Crooked Lake you can enjoy views of the second largest lake in all of Polk County. You can choose your trail for the hike. When you are hiking it is not uncommon to view Florida scrub jays and eagles. It is also not uncommon on the hike to see prickly pear cactus and gopher tortoises. The prickly pears you see on the hike are one of the Florida gopher tortoises' foods of choice.
The hiking area was at one time home to American Indians and archaeologists have found canoes in this area that pre-date the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Some canoes similar to these are available for viewing at the Depot Museum in Lake Wales. The hiking area includes wooden board walks over wet or often wet areas so you usually have little risk of getting shoes wet on this hike, unlike other Florida hiking trails.
Amenities on this hiking are include a couple picnic areas, paved parking and restrooms. Although the rest rooms are of the portable variety so it is recommended that you consider using facilities before starting your hike here. It is also recommended that you bring a camera on your hike as you can often see bald eagles, osprey, scrub jays, migratory birds, sand skinks, rabbits, deer and gopher tortoises while hiking this Florida locale.
