Florida couple once again harassed by city over veggie garden

Today, Jan. 8, 2013, we learn of a Florida couple that has a big problem. It seems that their vegetable garden is once again in the cross-hairs of the city of Orlando. The city has once again threatened fines if they don't uproot it by Jan. 10, 2013, according to the Institute for Justice Florida Chapter.

Christian’s shouldn’t be surprised by the conduct of the city. The Bible tells us that prior to the end times there will be trials and tribulations. Is government one of those problems, some in Orlando would say yes? Big Brother is just another word for the problems discussed in the Book of Revelation.

Back in Nov. 2012, the City of Orlando told Jason and Jennifer Helvenston that their 25-x-25-foot front yard veggie garden was not in compliance with city code.

Because of this problem, Jason and Jennifer Helvenstons are launching "Plant a Seed, Change the Law" protest. The protest is to combat Orlando’s law, which they say violates their constitutional right to peacefully use their property to grow their own food, according to clickorlando.com.

Initially, the city seemed to be a kinder gentler authority, and allowed the Helvenston’s to keep their garden, but since has changed its mind. The Helvenston’s could be fined up to $500 dollars a day if they do not comply according to the Institute for Justice.

The Helvenston’s are asking residents across Orlando to plant Patriot Garden’s in their own front yards.
