Florida cop with 25 years on the job convicted of possessing child pornography

Jonathan N. Gamson, 53, of Valrico, Florida threw his career of 25 years away with the Tampa Police Department after he was arrested in May of 2011 for possessing child pornography. Gamson had protested his innocence for the last 19 months, but changed his story and plead guilty to possession of kiddie porn for reduced charges from the prosecution. In a bit of irony, in the 1990s Gamson attempted to start a program to more readily identify sex offenders. Now he will be registering as one for the rest of his natural life.

In 2011 the Department of Homeland Security launched the much beguiled "Operation Gondola" where Gamson was a person of interest and was arrested along with thousands of others accused of being involved in the trade of sexual images of children.

According to the local reporting of news10.net, Gamson was found to be in possession of child pornography that was time stamped on his computer going back to 2006, and recent images dating to 2010.

Originally Gamson was staring at a charge of destroying evidence, and three charges of child pornography possession. In a plea deal the disgraced law enforcement officer plead guilty to one count of possession, and the prosecution agreed to drop the remaining charges. Because of his admittance of guilt it is now up to a judge to decide what his punishment shall be, and Gamson is facing 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

There is no reasonable way to know how long ex-officer Gamson engaged in this degenerate behavior, but interest in young children is not typically an affliction that is acquired later in life. So far no victims of Gamson have spoken out against him, but it will not be surprising if and when that day comes.

The pedophile police officer Jonathan N. Gamson will be sentenced for his crime after a presentence investigation is finished.
