Florida Christian church to burn Koran with protection of a Christian militia

The Christian church Dove World Outreach Center, located in Gainesville, Florida, is going ahead with its plans for an "international burn the Koran day" during which it will publicly burn Korans. The Koran is the sacred texts of Islam. Muslims believe that God/Allah had the angel Gabrial deliver God's writings to Mohammed. They believe that these writings are the contents of the Koran, the final word of God.

The city of Gainesville has said the church cannot burn the Korans without a burn permit which the city will not give them. However, the church, under the leadership of its senior pastor, Terry Jones, is going to ignore and disobey the city and burn the Korans without a permit. By doing so, Jones and his church are in violation of their own Bible. Romans 13:1-7 instructs Christians to obey the powers that be and if they fail to obey them they will be damned by God. This Christian teaching also instructs the faithful that those in power are put in power by God and therefore it is a sin to resist them. This Christian teaching puts a damper on the Fourth of July which celebrates the violent overthrow of the government. It also makes voting people out of office a possible sin as well.

A Christian armed militia, Right Wing Extreme, has stated they will protect and defend Dove World Outreach Center as they burn the copies of the Koran.

On a page titled "Islam is of the Devil", the church lists ten reasons why people should burn Korans. The reasons clearly demonstrate the lack of intelligence on the part of the church. For example, the first reason to burn Korans is because "The Koran teaches that Jesus Christ, the Crucified, Risen Son of God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords was NOT the Son of God, nor was he crucified (a well documented historical fact that ONLY Islam denies). This teaching removes the possibility of salvation and eternal life in heaven for all Islam's believers. They face eternal damnation in hell if they do not repent." The core of their argument is based on Christian superstition and myth, that Jesus is the son of God and that he came back from the dead. This claim is very unreasonable and unnatural. They make another error by stating that only Islam denies that Jesus was crucified. Many people do not believe in the Jesus story because it is not "well documented historical fact". In fact the Romans make no mention at all of Jesus. Christianity's belief that only Christians go to heaven is similar in its ignorance to the Islamic belief that only those who believe in Islam go to heaven/paradise. These pathetic superstitions are not harmless, as the violence they bring to the world is very harmful and damaging.

The unreasonableness of the Bible is probably why Terry Jones wants to burn the Koran instead of debating Muslims. If there was an open public debate between Christians and Muslims about the validity of their competing "holy" books, it would soon be very evident that God has nothing to do with either of them. Both are loaded with unreasonable claims and violence promoting doctrines. Both the Bible and Koran are overloaded with claims that directly assault our God-given reason.

I can't tweet this because the title is too long (just for future reference), but I agree, this is ridiculous. Everyone has the right to believe what they want in this country as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. As for Christ, the historian Josephus wrote about him, calling Christianity a "vile superstition".

Admit it, we have come a long way.
A couple of centuries ago those Christians would be burnings the Muslims, not just their book!
We must do what we can so they never regain such powers!

What is the difference between this church-leaders and the Taliban?
The Romans tried to burn the Christian faith and even fed believers
to the lions. the result was; Christianity spread and got stronger.
So, be it, burn those Korans and the Islam will get even stronger and
    spread faster.

Two wrongs do not make a right Bob. You may want to read what I said last week about this same story. Hopefully you won't delete it and give people a chance to see both opinions. It's peoples "reasoning" and not 'divine intervention" that have us in such turmoil.

It's very good idea. This "unholy" book is source of so many miseries and hatred around the world. It should be banned and only displayed on museum shelfs to warn people.
