From time to time our floral design school has a student from a very distant location. Driving time to commute to and from the school often exceeds 1.5 to 2 hours. The classrooms of our school are located in San Jose (capital of Silicon Valley: South of San Francisco Bay) and also Burlingame (San Francisco Peninsula close to San Francisco Airport). We have students from Sacramento, Napa, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Frezno and Santa Rosa that are so far from our school.
Those students are so enthusiastic to earn skills of floral designs and they want to take lessons even by sacrificing the time of their private life. Why do they want to join classes by driving all the way from such a distant location ? Because many of them are committed to engage in floral business.
When I have a student from a very distant location, I often offer special lessons that are done in the afternoon although we usually do not have afternoon lessons. Usually morning class starts at 10:00am and ends around 12:30pm. For these students I often provide additional lesson in the afternoon in addition to the morning class whereby they can learn 4 designs a day and minimize the frequency of their commute.
Needless to say they want to complete a course as soon as possible. Take Fresh Flower Arrangement Elementary Course for instance, the curriculum has 12 designs which must be digested by students. Usually one session lasts about 2.5 hours and it covers 2 designs. Therefore if they take a lesson once a week, they need to come to the classroom six times. If they can learn 4 designs a day, they can complete the course by coming to the classroom only 3 times.
One of main features relating to our operation is we can offer quite flexible lesson schedule which can be basically set up by each student by well considering their private convenience. Only because our operation scale is very small, we can work quite flexibly. This way of operation cannot be done by a large organization. And actually our flexible lesson schedule system has been highly appreciated by students who are very busy.
Also as far as space/room is available, students can take as many lessons as they like which also helps reduce the time for completing a course. Since the way we teach is a kind of semi private lessons limiting number of students no more than six per class/instructor, we can work quite flexibly to comply with our students’ request about lesson schedule.
If you are looking for a floral school that can work flexibly for students about the class schedule, California Flower Art Academy is one of the most ideal schools.
