Floral design training: Review and practice will help you earn decent skills (Video)

Judging from my past experience as a flower arrangement instructor, students who make lots of remarkable progress always review and practice what they learned during a lesson. They can do this after getting back home before they forget what they learned at the classroom. No matter what kind of training you do, it is so important to review and practice what you learned from your teacher. This helps you make a difference and step ahead of the competition.

I always recommend our students to bring a notebook and pen as well as a digital camera. Digital camera is used not only for taking photos of students who are enjoying at the classroom but also for recording floral designs they made during a lesson to keep a record which helps them review their own works later. After lesson is over, they can take all the stuff back home such as flowers, floral foam and container which help them duplicate exactly the same designs as they learned at school.

Listening to an instructor and following her instruction at a classroom is, of course, very important. But even more important thing is practicing after lesson is over. Students who have had no previous experiences in floral decorations are highly recommended to try to make exactly the same designs as their instructors do. Quite frankly it is not very easy to duplicate it. However the more time they spend, the easier it becomes, which is quite natural. And the time spent for duplicating the same job can be gradually minimized. By the time they complete Intermediate Course, they must recognize themselves that they feel it much easier to work on flower arranging.

This can be said not only for the training of flower arrangement but also for other skill trainings such as learning foreign languages, swimming, word processor typing and public speech training whatsoever. As they say, practice makes perfect.

After they have become able to duplicate instructor’s designing easily, they are supposed to start thinking how to make their own decorations. Next step is learning from the information source other than their instructors such as magazines and internet websites specializing in floral designs as well as You Tube etc. etc. which offer a variety of hints and advices. Again you are recommended to challenge duplicating arrangements published on the internet. During this stage you may again feel it difficult to make similar arrangements only because information from the internet does not help you with interactive advice on real time basis. In this kind of situation, you had better ask your school instructor about how to do and what to do.

Some of internet sites introducing how to make floral designs show what kind of materials must be prepared to make such and such designs as well as the instructions explaining the process and method of making floral decorations. Except for entry level quite simple designs, you MIGHT feel difficult what it really means. If you have already earned quite high level of flower arranging skills, you can clearly understand what it says. Quite frankly however, it is difficult to digest all the information to the level and extent that you can make it by yourself. If you have a kind advisor or instructor who can help you, you should not hesitate to consult her/him. Depending upon the situation, even by offering extra tuition or requesting to set up special one time lesson, you had better try to satisfy your wish. The experience through this kind of process will definitely help you enhance your arrangement skills and it can contribute to expanding your flower design portfolio.
