If you have already been learning or working on floral arrangements for more than five years in the United States, many people must respect you and admire your efforts and patience. Many people in America just enjoy taking one day seminar or very short program which will be completed in a week or so. Quite frankly speaking we seldom find people who learn or work on floral designs for more than five years.
This is partially because of the difference in culture in the United States and also some people cannot continue learning floral designs mainly because of lack of fund. They would like to keep learning but unfortunately the financial situation does not allow them to continue taking lessons.
Here is my suggestion. It is not always necessary to continue taking lessons on a consecutive basis. They can take a break whenever they like. And when they feel like resuming learning it, they can come back to the school. Since they already took some classes at the school, they must have already earned certain number of credits/units which will help them to belong to a higher level of course. Also another advice is that they can continue learning by minimizing the number of lessons per week or per month. In the case of our floral design school, each student can decide how many lessons they should take a week and a month. Therefore by well considering the time and fund available for them to take lessons, they can set up their own learning schedule. Even if they take only a few lessons a month, as far as they continue it and work diligently, they can eventually earn reasonable skills. Slow and steady wins the race.
Only because we are small size of floral design school, we can work very flexibly so that the system can be students friendly. As a matter of fact some students are now taking only one session of lesson per week. It costs very small amount of money which makes it possible for them to continue learning by attending classes. Of course ideal way of learning is to take lots of lessons within a limited time and before they forget what they learned at previous lesson, they can move up to a higher level of programs. However it is not always necessary to follow this ideal way. Our school accepts only a couple of lessons a week or a month for students who already completed the Elementary Course.
As seen from the above, I can say that it is easy to start learning floral design but difficult to continue it. From person to person, the reason behind discontinuing to learn (or work) on floral arrangement is different. In the case of students, one of biggest reasons is financial problem as mentioned above. Therefore students are recommended to set up reasonable learning schedule well considering their cash flow and financial situation.
