Hi, my name is Mieko Hirano. I have been engaged in teaching floral designs for more than 30 years in Japan and USA. Currently I am heading a floral arrangement school called California Flower Art Academy. As a chief instructor and managing director of this floral design school, I would like to draw your attention to my opinion as stated below.
Once you have earned decent skills of flower arrangement or floral designs, you can keep such skills as your lifetime property. This property will never be depreciated or its value will not be decreased unlike the market value of real estate or stocks etc. In this sense, it is considered secure property.
And It is fully up to you how you will make the best use of this valuable property. You can use this skill just for enjoying and appreciating your own floral decorations at home or you can use it for doing floral business such as running a floral shop or working as a wedding floral decorator or you can even offer flower arranging classes if your skill is of very high quality and enough to educate other people.
People often hesitate to spend money for making investment especially when buying a real estate, securities or stocks. They need to run a risk affected by the economic and market situation. There is no guarantee that the value of properties will remain unchanged or appreciated. If you are unlucky, you MAY lose part of the value of your properties depending on the economic situation.
However if you make investment in yourself such as spending money for educating yourself or earning skills, this kind of investment will seldom affected by economic situation. As far as you make a right choice and decision about your goal and target for getting education or training, you are usually secured and will not be at the mercy of economic situation.
Take floral arranging skills for instance, the cost for learning floral designs is much less than investing and buying real estate and stocks or tuitions for getting degree from a university. Again the value of floral designing skills will not be decreased even at the time of depression or recession once you have earned and mastered this skill. After you have earned tihs skill, you can keep the quality and level of skills by way of continuing to make floral decorations by yourself. You can make designs by yourself for home decorations or you can make floral decorations at various events such as weddings, funerals or birthday parties etc etc. As far as you continue to use the skills and techniques you earned from your instructor, you can keep the quality and level of the skills. You do not have to spend any money for keeping the quality of your skills.
One of the most effective ways for keeping the qualify and level of your skill MAY be teaching other people what you learned. Teaching other people requires perfect understandings about the concept of designs and also a high level of designing skills. By teaching other people, you can enhance your own skills of floral designs. Plus you can earn some money, Of course in order for you to offer your own classes, you need to learn floral arrangement very diligently and for a certain period of time and preferably you had better get an certificate of advanced level or instructor course.
Not only floral designs but also other things such as a foreign language, history and dancing etc etc., most of teachers can enhance their knowledge level and skills by way of educating students at their own classes.
As already mentioned above, floral design skill is a lifetime property once you have mastered it. And it will help you enjoy and improve your life.
