There are various types of floral designs from table arrangements displayed on a table to tiny hand-tied arrangements like bridal bouquets. Among a variety of floral decorations, when it comes to easel mounted wreaths called Standing Wreath, it requires a little bit different way of approach to make it although it is not so difficult.
This arrangement has a wide range of application and it can be used in a variety of occasions and places as mentioned below:
Unlike table arrangements or centerpiece decorations, easel mounted wreaths are not typically used for home decorations. They are usually designed so that they are displayed at special events such as funerals, weddings, parties and ceremonies whatsoever. Typically they are displayed at the entrance of event place or just nearby the reception counter of various events.
Depending upon the type of standing wreaths, they sometimes use floral foam to continue supplying water to fresh elements. Namely if fresh flowers are used for standing decoration, floral foam (“Oasis”) is often used after being soaked. You must have found an easel mounted wreath featuring beautiful fresh flowers at the time of funerals or weddings. By way of using soaked floral foams, flowers can remain fresh for a while.
On the other hand, if standing decorations do not use any fresh flowers or even if they use fresh elements, if such elements can remain fresh for a while without water, you do not have to use soaked foam. In this kind of case, it is enough to just mount ornament materials onto the base material such as grape vines etc. without using soaked foam.
When using soaked foams, you need to pay special attention for floral foam not to be too much soaked with too much water due to following two reasons:
- If a foam is too much soaked, floral arrangement results too heavy and a weak stand (especially the one made of thin wire) may be broken or the decoration itself may lose a weight balance.
- Water may be dropping from too much soaked foams of a wreath, which will make the floor messy.
Many of the fall season wreaths do not use floral foam mainly because they often use dead leaves of shiny foliage or dried vegetables such as pumpkins etc. that need no water. You can buy not only fresh flowers but also base materials of wreath and floral foams etc. at a flower market at reasonable prices. However once such materials are formed into beautiful easel mounted wreaths, they are sold at pretty expensive prices in the market.
