Downtown Tacoma was underwater earlier today. In fact there was as much water that the storm drain covers from downtown Tacoma and into Ruston were lifted off the manholes and likely floated down the road way. King 5 aired a bit of the flooding as it happened today, September 28, 2013. The storm cell took many people and businesses in the downtown area by surprise and now that the storm cell has passed many are wondering if there is more to come.
As the clean up from this mornings flooding takes place and businesses begin to re-open some are turning to The Weather Channel to see if there is more to come and if so when. According to The Weather Channel the area is still under a flood warning and rain is expected to continue through at least Monday. Although Tacoma is no stranger to rain, this amount seemed to take most by surprise.
Riding through the downtown Tacoma area you could see the look of shock on nearly every drivers face as they went by and the few pedestrians that were out were wading across the streets. One pedestrian appeared to be wearing rain boots but the rushing water was well over knee high near the sidewalks and the boots were no match for it. It is highly advised to stay away from low areas as much as possible until the water level has gone down and the storm drain covers that seemed to have floated down the roads have been replaced.
