Saturday, devastating floods ripped through Pakistan as the death toll has risen to over 800 people in Khyber Pekhtunkhwa province, according to the information minister spokesman Mian Iftikhar Hussain. Many of the people who died were carried away when the floodwater swept away their mud houses in Swat Valley, and in the districts of Shangla and Tank.
Khyber Pekhtunkhwa province used to be known as the North West Frontier Province. The death toll is up from 25 reported Friday. Over a million people have been affected by the massive flooding, and it has washed away buildings, businesses, schools, and homes, according to the United Nations.
Saturday, Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that tourists and residents have been trapped and stranded by the high waters, and they are using all available resources to get to those people. But many roads have been washed away and getting to the trapped people is difficult.
The recent rainfall has broken all records in Pakistan.
The United Nations has asked for help with providing emergency shelter, food, drinking water, and sanitation facilities in Pakistan.
