Flood warnings throughout the East Coast from Maine, Rhode Island down to Florida. Record rain and flooding hit the East Coast over the past few days and Rhode Island has gotten the worst of it. Flood warnings have been issued from Maine down to Florida. In the last two weeks, two major storms have hit the East Coast, and in the Northeast meteorologists have predicted "very dangerous" flooding on Tuesday.
From Maine to South Carolina roads have been washed out and 5-7 inches of rain is expected over the next few days. The first major rain storm hit the Northeast on March 13-15 and left 10 inches of rain. This storm caused major rivers to rise. The second storm started over the weekend and brought additional water to rivers that were already full.
The National Weather Service said that possible “life-threatening” flooding occurred in Rhode Island on Monday and Tuesday. Families have been evacuated from their homes in Cranston, Rhode Island on Monday.
Monday, Massachusetts was declared a state of emergency and about a 1,000 National Guardsmen were called in to help. Boston has already had record rain fall for the month of March.
Weather forecasters said that New York City may reach a record for the month of March as well.
Rain in the Carolinas is expected to taper off on Tuesday, but flood warnings are still in effect. Most of the East Coast has had several inches of rain over the past few days and flood warnings have been issued all the way down to Florida, according to CNN.
Utah is expecting rain and snow over the next few days. Two weeks ago, the during Flood Safety Awareness week officials announced that Utah is in little threat of flooding this year, but warned that flooding can occur quickly without warning. In Utah, 31 people have been killed from flash floods since 1950.
