Extreme weather conditions have caused many flight cancelations at Seattle-Tacoma Airport. The back to back snow storms have given way to freezing rains causing very slick and icy conditions on roadways and runways.
Two of the three runways at Sea-Tac International Airport are open at this time. The third runway is expected to open Thursday afternoon. The freezing rain and extremely cold conditions have created very treacherous conditions on the runways. The dangerous conditions have prevented aircraft from departing and arriving. Many flights have been canceled since early this morning.
Perry Cooper, airport spokesman, said that the ice storm is causing dangerous conditions but one runway was opened around 7 a.m. Due to the cancelation of many flights, air travelers will be dealing with delays and backups. It is recommended that travelers check on their flight status prior to driving the icy roadways to the airport.
