An Air India flight was delayed in India because the pilot refused to remove his earrings. A policy set by the airline clearly states that male crew members cannot wear earrings -- so why there was a problem with this particular pilot is unknown.
"Male crew are not permitted to have long hair, long side burns, intimidating mustache, or very long unkempt beards" according to the Air India manual. Also, earrings, nose rings, and ponytails are not permitted by the company either.
Despite being well aware of the company's policy, the pilot refused to listen to higher ups -- for some reason, he just would not take out his earrings. After some back and forth arguing, authorities decided to let the pilot keep his earrings in. Evidently he wasn't a threat... the flight made it to Sri Lanka without further delay. And the pilot totally kept his earrings on the whole time. No word on if he will be written up over the incident... or if he's still piloting planes with his earrings on.
