Blogs seem to have become the pet rock for the wifi generation; everybody has one, often for a short period of time before getting bored and letting it fade into pop culture oblivion. Ditto earth shoes. There are however, several in the airline industry who have made blogging part of their life in the sky. Their blogs are certainly addicting as is the banter, camaraderie, and wholesale inappropriateness and bad yet charming behavior that accompanies the blogging on Twitter. This oftentimes includes conversations on crop-dusting (that is, how to fart on a plane), passenger antics, and playful dancing around revealing too much of one’s true identity and airline employer lest they be fired for it like at least one Delta flight attendant was.
And thankfully, airline rules have mostly been relaxed on the subject. Many carriers don’t mind if their employees blog, and corporate policies on the topic range from prohibiting employees from making any reference to their employer by name, or making any statements that might reveal who they work for, to a simple disclaimer stating the employees views are their own and are not connected with their employer. With the rise of blogging and social media as an effective promotional tool, to prohibit employees from blogging or use of social media would be a double standard – especially considering the general pulse of flight attendant blogs tends to be one of quirky amusement over human nature and the unique, exciting occupation of flight. Although airline customer service seems to take a consistently poor reputation in the media these days, if anything is to be gleaned from the short list of flight attendant blogs I’ve been following, it’s that the voices on these blogs are those of professional flight attendants who take great pride in their work and the airlines they work for – and industry-wide, for nearly any airline, regardless of media or pop culture portrayal, these are the kinds of flight attendants that make the rule, rather than the exception in our increasingly frustrated skies.
Beyond that, enjoy the read!

LUV your post Scott! You've sucessfully summarized my experience with the inflight crew's musings. Except for a few weeks of disaffectation (I think that's the word), I have enjoyed the humor and unusual stories that I read periodically. One really memorable post was when two flight attendants blogged about a non-rev trip to Prague. I LUV thAAt story! :-)
