“Mean Girls” was more than just a box office hit as it helped rocket Tina Fey, Lindsay Lohan and a slew of others to a whole new status in Hollywood. Now 10 years later the film’s impact still stands even if not all of its stars have kept their “A-list” appeal.
Original Release Date: April 30, 2004
The Line (in millions) – Budget: $18, Opening: $24.4, Total: $86, Worldwide: $130.9
- Lindsay Lohan was originally slated to play the role of lead “Plastic” Regina George, but opted instead to play the “nice girl” role of Cady Heron. Incidentally Amanda Seyfried was slated to play Cady, but producer Lorne Michaels thought she’d be better as Karen.
-The film is based upon the book "Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and Other Realities of Adolescence" by Rosalind Wiseman, although the book is actually a non-fiction parental self-help guide with no storyline…Tina Fey created the story.
-Tim Meadows broke his hand before shooting and as such the injury was written into the movie (as him having carpal tunnel syndrome).
