Flickr has just released an update to its iOS app that now features hashtags. This update jumps on the bandwagon of Twitter and Instagram who use hashtags faithfully. According to "The Verge", the move by Flickr is an attempt to compete with both Twitter and Instagram who are more popular.
Flickr previously used tags and was one of the first apps to do so. However, hashtags are all the new rage as well as having usernames that use the @symbol. Facebook has also been rumored to pick up on the hashtag craze in the coming months but that has not been confirmed yet.
Although the hashtags advertisement is on the app, the term tags is still being used on the app's official website. Moreover, when a user clicks on a hashtag they will see relevant photos to the hashtag but it will be removed from the header of their photo.
What other social networking apps do you think should jump on the hashtag bandwagon?
