Fleet Foxes will grace the stage this Saturday at Tower Theater which at one time was a $1.00 movie theater but has turned into a historic live music venue. The infamous theater has hosted a lot of '"firsts" for well-known bands. David Bowie played his first Philadelphia concert at The Tower, as well as Genesis and many others. Bruce Springsteen played his first show with the E Street band at the theater which happened well before his ground-breaking album 'Born to Run'.
Fleet Foxes are a Seattle-based indie band under the Sub Pop Record label. The folk-pop band formed in 2006 and upon release of their full length debut album 'Fleet Foxes' in 2008, they hit the ground running. The band includes; Robin Pecknold-vocals and guitar, Skye Skjelset-guitar, Casey Wescott-Keyboard and vocals, Christian Wargo-guitar and vocals, and J.Tillman-drums and vocals. Their sound is often compared to Crosby, Stills and Nash, as well as Peter, Paul and Mary. The 5-piece band is rich with similar harmony styles and genteel lyrics.
The bands long-awaited sophomore album, 'Helplessness Blues' has been highly anticipated by their fans and critics. The time during the writing and producing of the album was very trying on the band and an unsatisfied Robin Pecknold, scrapped the first version of the album and started from scratch. Their hard work paid off in the long run as 'Helplessness Blues' has been highly praised by both critics and fans. The band brought the music to a more refined level yet they are still holding true to their roots to folk music.
Be sure to catch Fleet Foxes on Jimmy Fallon this Friday, May 20th.
You can follow the band (Robin) on Twitter at @FleetFoxes. On a personal note I follow Robin on Twitter and he gives good tweet! He often puts his Twitter fans on the guest list to their shows (pretty much every show) and he even shares guitar chords with his followers. He is truly kind-hearted and funny and not to mention humbled by it all.
