'Flea Market Flip' fights 'The Battle of the Green Chaise' on HGTV

Last night's episode of "Flea Market Flip" where two teams go to flea markets, purchase items for them to transform, then attempt to flip their item for a profit. Lara Spencer, a veteran of flea-market finds and transformations, hosts this show. The winning team goes home with $5,000, so the competition is fierce. With a budget of $500 and only one hour to shop, they must follow three criteria set in place by Lara.

On this episode, they are at the Stormville Airport Antique Show and Flea Market in Stormville in upstate New York. First team is John Paul and Ashleigh who take on Charmaine and Renita. Their flip criteria consists of a Dining Project; to create a dining set for a small space. Next rule is, Elements of Glass; to create a piece that features glass, and last is the Wild Card; where anything goes.

As the hour ticks down, they get a bit of help from Lara, as she watched them peruse the items across the acreage of the market. Renita and Charmaine found a vintage chaise lounge from the late 1800s and decided to get it and give it a facelift. John Paul and Ashleigh found an old telephone table for the 1950s. The ladies were finished with time to spare, and the couple made it under the wire.

When each team saw each other's items, they were impressed. Now they each had one day to create their projects with help from the master craftsmen provided to them by "Flea Market Flip."

The couple are making a bar from a hutch that has glass doors for their glass project; the women are making a side table from a glass lamp and a mirror. The dining project from the couple was an old drafting table with two rattan chairs. They removed the rattan and replaced the seats with fabric and put a glass top on the table and metal edging. The ladies created a bistro table theme for dining, and their updated green chaise was price tagged at $1,025.

The proof will be when they bring their items to the Brooklyn Flea Market for sale. The first item sold was the side table with the mirror top for $150; cost was $28. The next item was the couple's bar for $250, with a profit of $170. The couple's dining set sold for $240 giving them a profit of $200. The ladies' dining table set sold for $225 with a profit of $170. The telephone table sold for $175 with a profit of $125. The green chaise was the last item standing and with only seconds left, the green chaise finally sold for $400 giving them a profit of $240.

Charmaine and Renita made $527 and John Paul and Ashleigh only made $495 with a difference of $32, but both teams had a great time, but only one team can win on "Flea Market Flip."
