Last week, emerging designer Cristina Gabriele of Heart and Noble, debuted her Cable Tie Collection of fine jewelry at her first ever US trunk show. A strongly directional artist, Cristina's youthful energy has been honed into a disciplined approach to jewelry making.
The tightly edited collection is an exploration of common objects in precious metal. Inspired by the 'blunt and passionate energy of the New York woman', the jewelry is simple and tough, like the women themselves. Arrayed simply among found objects, and inside glass and velvet cases reminiscent of museum displays, the stud earrings, pendants and bracelets both elegant and approachable.
Cristina was first seen stateside at the LAUNCH NYC Ready To Wear show during NY Fashion Week. Her work challenged the viewer to realize that the colored, structural piece were not just decoration, but a deep expression of independent thought. Artfully presented on both male and female models, the pieces ranged from clear to black, with bursts of brilliant color in between. Heart and Noble's runway show was a refreshingly quiet presentation that stayed in the memory long afterward.
The trunk show, 'Industrious', took place at Flat 128, a boutique that specializes in UK design. Everything carried in the charmingly shabby/chic store was designed and produced in the UK, by established and up and coming designers. Visit their store at 15 Christopher Street to purchase pieces from Heart and Noble's Cable Tie Collection, as well as their selection of contemporary jewelry, home décor, clothing and accessories.
