Flashback Friday: Sex on the Beach with Survivor

Sex on the Beach
Sex on the Beach

There’s no better way to kick off a holiday weekend then with a flashback Friday! Friends and family getting together for some fun in the sun and rehashing of back in the day is always a good time. And if you’re an 80’s kid the memories are even better.

Big hair and bad wardrobes are a staple of the 80’s as most of the incriminating #fbf photos have proven. Cocktails were colorful and potent and Schlitz and Michelob Light weren’t considered retro back then. While you might not be willing to don a pair of parachute pants and test gravity with the help of an entire can of hairspray, you can definitely add a little retro with a #fbf cocktail. The Sex on the Beach.

Delicious, sweet and potent, the original Sex on the Beach has been modified over the decades as new spirit flavors hit the market. And with the whole ongoing “mixology” craze it’s barely recognizable as the genius cocktail creation the original once was. Some things are better left alone. One taste of the original and you’ll agree.

The Original Sex on the Beach

  • 1.5 oz Vodka
  • .5 oz Peach schnapps
  • 1.5 oz Orange or pineapple juice
  • 1.5 oz Cranberry juice

Pour all ingredients into a tall glass filled with ice. Stir and serve.

Alternate Sex on the Beach Recipe

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 3/4 ounce peach schnapps
  • 1/2 ounce creme de cassis
  • 2 ounces orange juice
  • 2 ounces cranberry juice

Pour all ingredients into a tall glass filled with ice. Stir and serve.

And of course no #fbf holiday weekend would be complete without music from the 80’s. Songs from your favorite bands are sure to bring the memories back like nothing else. Remembering where you were when you first heard Prince’s Little Red Corvette or Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar on Me or Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name sends our minds swooning with nostalgia. And of course no one can forget 80’s legendary power anthem Eye of the Tiger by Survivor.

If after all this time your mind is a little fuzzy and can’t quite remember, you can make new memories to these songs by seeing Survivor in concert. You’re guaranteed to hear all your old favorites like Burning Heart, Can’t Hold Back, Is this Love, Rebel Girl, High on You and Eye of the Tiger at all of their shows.

Check them out tonight, July 4th, at the O’Fallon Heritage & Freedom Festival – Ozzie Smith Sports Complex. The tickets are free!

Other shows:

July 5th
Salamanca, NY at the Seneca Allegany Casino.

July 8th
Elk Grove Village, IL, Elk Grove Midsummer.
