The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of Western and Northern Mississippi.
This Flash Flood Watch is in effect through the evening for the potential of 2-4 inches of rainfall.
Portions of Western and Northern Mississippi have already recieved 1-3 inches rainfall since Sunday, and with heavy rain likely throughout the day , flash flooding will become a threat.
Mississippi Counties included:
BOLIVAR, SUNFLOWER, LEFLORE, GRENADA, CARROLL, MONTGOMERY, WASHINGTON HUMPHREYS, HOLMES, ISSAQUENA, SHARKEY, YAZOO, HINDS, RANKIN, MADISON, DESOTO, MARSHALL, BENTON, TIPPAH, ALCORN, TISHOMINGO, TUNICA, TATE, PRENTISS COAHOMA, QUITMAN, PANOLA, LAFAYETTE, UNION, PONTOTOC, LEE, ITAWAMBA, TALLAHATCHIE, YALOBUSHA, CALHOUN, CHICKASAW, AND MONROE
(Heavy rain associated with strong thunderstorms fell across Central and Southern Mississippi, Monday evening, with a large area of moderate to heavy rain, approaching the state, from Arkansas and Louisiana.)

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATEMENT:
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE OVER THE AREA THROUGH THIS EVENING.
AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVING THROUGH THE VERY MOIST AIRMASS IN PLACE OVER THE REGION WAS GENERATING A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL...IN ADDITION TO STORMS MOVING OVER THE SAME AREAS WILL LEAD TO LOCALIZED FLOODING.
RAINFALL AMOUNTS FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES HAVE ALREADY FALLEN...AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES IS LIKELY BY THIS EVENING.
WIDESPREAD STREET FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN FLOOD PRONE AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.
IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE FOR WATER TO ENTER STRUCTURES IN LOW LYING AREAS.
