Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen made the decision to remove the mobile game from app stores, hoping to fall back into obscurity. An internet rumor killed off the instant celebrity Monday, suggesting that instead of restoring peace to his life, he was resting in it.

As IBTimes reports (Feb. 10), the online death hoax claiming that Nguyen committed suicide came about after the Flappy Bird mobile game app was taken down from iTunes and Google Play. An article found on satire-based website, Huzlers may be where the creator's suicide rumor originates from.

Other fake suicide reports surfaced on Twitter adding more controversy to the Flappy Bird saga. In a related hoax last week, this same site reported that a Chicago teen killed his own brother over a high score in Flappy Bird. The false story was almost believable since the highly addictive quality of the game is to beat the highest score, which can lead to frustration for some users.

Extraordinary successful, Flappy Bird appears to have brought too much fame to Nguyen. “Press people are overrating the success of my games. It is something I never want. Please give me peace,” Nguyen tweeted.

Flappy Bird app downloads reached over 50 million iOS and Android users, to date. Nguyen made a cool $50,000 a day in ad revenue before the game was yanked from app stores Monday. "The reason Flappy Bird is so popular is that it happens to be something different from mobile games today, and is a really good game to compete against each other," Nguyen told the Verge.

The demand for the game now has devices with the app installed selling on eBay for outrageous prices. As Mashable reports, one auction for a used iPhone with Flappy Bird pre-installed reached a high bid of about $100,000.
