Creative Rock artists The Flaming Lips recently shared a video on YouTube, covering the popular Queen classic "Bohemian Rhapsody". The visual concept is quirky, in typical Flaming Lips style - containing a nude sunbather spilling globs of sunblock and eating mounds of wasabi poolside.
The Flaming Lips are known to cover classic Rock music. They've shared video covering The Beatles' "I Am the Walrus" and "All You Need Is Love" and performed Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" live to audiences around the world. In 2012, The Guardian reported The Flaming Lips and a menagerie of other Prog Rock artists would be releasing a cover of King Crimson's "In The Court of Crimson King" in its entirety.
No explanation of the band's Queen cover has been posted to the band's YouTube channel, nor their official website. The Flaming Lips are a band know to create "Art for Art's sake". Maybe this video was just another creative weekend tackling one of their favorite tunes. Or, perhaps, it is a hint of their next cover album release, Queen's lofty opus "A Night At The Opera". Not one's to shy away from a musical challenge, anything is possible when The 'Lips approach such projects.
The band's latest original album "The Terror" is currently available for pre-order on iTunes, and will release April 2, 2013. A handful of US and worldwide (music festivals and co-headlining with Black Keys) tour dates are posted on the band's website. With a new album to promote and a band known for their amazing live show, keep your eye open for another Flaming Lips tour in 2013.
