Wayne Coyne (with guitar) and the Flaming Lips want concert goers to hear new music first
By now, you know that the Flaming Lips put on one hell of a show – the band’s concerts usually include videos, confetti cannons, people in full-on animal suits and, of course, Wayne Coyne walking on top of the crowd in his man-sized transparent globe. As if seeing such wonders live before your eyes isn’t enough incentive, the Lips are offering some sweet music gifts to fans who buy online tickets to shows on their 2009 summer tour.
The Flaming Lips “Music Ticket Bundle” gives each online ticket buyer a download code that can be redeemed at the band’s web site for a digital EP of six songs. Of the six, three are previously unreleased previews from the Lips’ upcoming, “Embryonic, ” a double disc set due for release later this year. The new songs are "Convinced of the Hex," "The Impulse," and "Silver Trembling Hands." The other three tracks in the bundle are rare B-sides selected by the band. And, after the show, that same ticket buyer will get a live audio recording of the concert he/she has attended via digital download (the band’s web site says that it hopes to have that music ready 3-5 days after the show). Online distribution company Basecamp Productions is facilitating the production and delivery of the live music.
