The popular snack that everyone loves, especially school age kids apparently, is under the gun today by public schools in three states. Everything about the Cheetos snack is being attacked from the nutritional value, which apparently is O to the fact that kids are leaving a mess all over the schools for janitors to clean up! Has your child gotten bitten by this spicy bug? If so and you live in New Mexico, California and Illinois then your schools have banned this tasty snack for good. The schools state that not only does this snack leave the kids literally red handed which in turn transfers to all their school books, work and walls, but there are many other reasons cited in the news as well.
One very notable reason is stated as the nutritional value of the snack is O. When one looks at the ingredients of Flamin Hot Cheetos you can see that the fat content in a serving size of 21 pieces is huge at 24%! That’s more than any snack I know of personally. Look at the serving size and ask yourself, when can kids eat just 21 pieces? The unhealthy snack has been called addictive by the Huffington Post and staff in the schools in these three states has had enough. As a nutritional guru and natural living expert, just looking at this snack’s ingredient list makes me feel bad all over. In a time when our country is the fattest country on earth and the government has finally had to put their hands into the schools in order to control the obesity epidemic by trying to change schools nutritional guidelines. This snack walks in with our kids and threatens to destroy all the work.
The Flamin Hot Cheetos have a salt content of more than a third of one days recommended amount! We are talking a whopping 10%. The saturated fat content alone is 7%, that’s more than any adult, let alone any child should be eating in a day. Since the schools in these three states have started something by banning these popular snacks in school some parents are speaking out against it. Why I ask? Why is there still a parent in existence in this country that would speak out against something that is meant as so good for the children? What we need in this country is pro-health activists!
If the parents are not going to take care of their kid’s health then the schools will. Earlier this year we have seen Mrs. Obama change the schools nutritional program. It needed to be overhauled and can actually use some more work, but it is better than it ever has been. From programs like Farm to Schools kids in some schools are being fed a much healthier lunch now. The Chicago Tribune reported about a teacher sending a letter home to a child’s parents asking them to leave the Cheetos product at home citing the health concerns as well as the fact that the snacks spread germs among the students as each kid reaches into one bag of the snack and how messy the snack is.
One school in Pasadena, California decided to state that any kid that brings a bag of these to school in their lunch will have the snack confiscated! Some kids are eating a bag of the Cheetos for lunch and nothing else. There is an addictive quality about the snack and some people are saying that a child eating this snack as the same reaction when they don’t get it as if they are on drugs! What do you think about schools taking this proactive step and banning Flamin Hot Cheetos?
