Flames won't release Monahan for World Juniors

According to TSN on Tuesday, Calgary Flames center Sean Monahan will not be released for the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden.

Monahan, a rookie for the Flames from Brampton, Ontario, who is currently out with a broken foot, has nine goals and six assists for 15 points this season.

On Monday, Hockey Canada announced its selection camp roster. A total of 25 players will battle for 22 spots from December 12-15 during the camp in Toronto.

Among those high profile players invited include defenceman Matt Dumba of the Minnesota Wild, forward Jonathan Drouin, who was drafted third overall in the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, and defenceman Griffin Reinhart, who was drafted fourth overall in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the New York Islanders.

In other Hockey Canada news, Team Canada will announce its men's roster for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi on January 7.
