The Calgary Flames simply did not look like a team that was in last place in the Western Conference standings on Wednesday.
According to www.tsn.ca, Curtis Glencross and Lee Stempniak each scored a goal and an assist as the Flames defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-2. Matt Stajan also had a multi-point game with two assists. Glencross, Stempniak and Stajan were all a +3.
The Flames dominated the third period, outscoring the Red Wings 3-0.
Despite the loss, the Red Wings did manage to score their first road power play goal of the entire season. Valtteri Filppula broke an ugly 0-for-37 slump the Red Wings were facing.
With the win, the Flames moved out of the basement in the Western Conference and are tied with the Colorado Avalanche with 24 points, four points back of the Minnesota Wild for a playoff spot.
The Flames next host the Nashville Predators on Friday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
