According to TSN, the Calgary Flames have traded right winger Lee Stempniak to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a third round draft pick in the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft on Wednesday.

Stempniak had eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points, but had been a defensive liability for the Flames this season at -21. Stempniak did lead the Flames however with 144 shots on goal.

Stempniak's best game this season came in a 5-4 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks where he notched three assists, including helping set up the game winner by defenseman T.J. Brodie.

Stempniak recently missed two games because his wife gave birth to twin girls. He has played nine seasons in the National Hockey League since 2006 with St. Louis, Toronto, Phoenix and Calgary.

The Penguins also acquired Marcel Goc from the Florida Panthers. The Penguins were in need of some offensive depth because of injuries to Pascal Dupuis, Beau Bennett and Chris Conner.
