The Calgary Flames traded goaltender Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday for a seventh round draft pick in the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
According to TSN, Karlsson has been assigned to the Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate in Rockford.
Do not be surprised if Karlsson gets the start for the Rockford IceHogs when they host the Chicago Wolves, the American Hockey League affiliate for the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. Expect Karlsson to see a lot of action in Rockford with the Chicago Blackhawks currently going with a tandem of Corey Crawford and Ray Emery.
In two seasons backing up Miikka Kiprusoff, Karlsson had a record of five wins, nine losses and eight overtime losses. However under the Flames system, he had a difficult time trying to get in any type of groove because he was playing so infrequently.
With Karlsson going to Chicago, expect Leland Irving to backup Kiprusoff for the rest of the season.
