According to TSN on Wednesday, the Calgary Flames have traded goaltender Reto Berra to the Colorado Avalanche for a second round pick in the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The move comes at a surprise for Flames fans because Berra was playing very well for Calgary and seemed to have solidified the goaltending position for the short term. Despite a record of 9-17-2, he has a respectable 2.95 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.897 this season. Berra also played very well for Switzerland at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Expect the Avalanche send Berra down to the American Hockey League to play for the Lake Erie Monsters because Colorado is currently solid in net with Semyon Varlamov and Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

The Flames meanwhile will have a Finnish tandem of Joni Ortio and Karri Ramo in between the pipes. However do not be surprised if Joey MacDonald will soon be called up to Calgary from Abbotsford because Ramo is out indefinitely with a knee injury.
