For the Calgary Flames to make the 2013 National Hockey League postseason, they will simply not be able to take too many periods off.
On Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, according to TSN, the Flames might have played well in the opening twenty minutes and final twenty minutes, but had a lousy middle stanza and lost 4-1 to the San Jose Sharks.
The Flames led the Sharks 1-0 heading into the second period, but could not find an answer for veteran forward Patrick Marleau, who scored twice in just over a four minute stretch.
With the win, the Sharks move into a first place tie with the Anaheim Ducks in the Pacific Division. The Ducks got two goals and two assists from Teemu Selanne in a 7-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
The Flames will next play the Ducks at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on Monday night, while the Sharks will play the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
