Berra made 42 saves as the Calgary Flames defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in overtime. Kris Russell of Caroline, Alberta (an hour north of Calgary) scored the overtime winner at 1:32 of the extra period. It was the defenceman's fifth point in four games.
The win was a huge upset for the Flames because Calgary was expected to battle for the cellar in the Western Conference, while the Blackhawks are the defending Stanley Cup champions.
The Flames also got goals from Mike Cammalleri and Curtis Glencross. The Flames nearly won the contest in regulation, but Blackhawks' veteran sniper Marian Hossa tied the game at two with 4:19 left with Matt Stajan in the penalty box.
With the win, the Flames improve to 6-6-2, while the Blackhawks fall to 9-2-4. Calgary next plays in Minnesota on Tuesday. They are currently four points back of the Los Angeles Kings for a playoff spot.
