On Wednesday, forwards Steve Begin, Markus Granlund, and Josh Jooris, and defensemen Chad Billins, John Ramage and Tyler Wotherspoon were sent down, and on Thursday, forwards Michael Ferland, Corban Knight and Max Reinhart were told they would begin the season in Abbotsford.
Meanwhile, defenseman Keegan Kanzig will return to the Western Hockey League for another season and play for the Victoria Royals.
Begin has the most NHL experience among the bunch. He has 524 career NHL games under his belt with Calgary, Montreal, Dallas, Boston and Nashville.
Granlund, Wotherspoon and Reinhart have all been high draft picks for the Flames in recent years. Knight, who lost significant personal items from the High River flood, was acquired from the Florida Panthers for a fourth round pick in the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and will need some time in the AHL before he has a chance to be a Flames' regular.
