Flames schedule for 2014-15 NHL regular season announced

According to the National Hockey League website, the National Hockey League released its 2014-15 regular season schedule on Sunday. The Calgary Flames will open their season on Wednesday, October 8 against the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

It will be one of four games on the NHL opening night schedule. The other games will be the Montreal Canadiens at the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Philadelphia Flyers at the Boston Bruins and the San Jose Sharks at the Los Angeles Kings.

According to the Calgary Flames website, the Flames will play all teams within the Pacific Division five times with the exception of the Vancouver Canucks, who they will play four times. The Flames will also once again host a game on New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day. On New Year's Eve, they will host their Alberta provincial rival, the Edmonton Oilers and on Valentine's Day, they will host the Canucks.

The Flames will have a seven game road trip from February 24-March 8 because Calgary will be hosting the 2015 Tim Horton's Brier at the Scotiabank Saddledome. So on two occasions (from December 27 to January 9 and from January 27 to February 6) the Flames will have six game homestands.

On two occasions the Flames will host the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. Those dates will be Monday, December 29 and Thursday, April 9 (which will also be the Flames' regular season home finale).

According to Sportsnet, all of the Calgary Flames games Saturday night will be seen nationally on either a channel owned by Rogers or CBC. Those games are October 11 in St. Louis, October 25 against Washington, November 15 against Ottawa, November 22 against New Jersey, November 29 in Arizona, December 6 against San Jose, December 20 in Vancouver, December 27 against Edmonton, January 10 in Vancouver, January 17 in San Jose, January 31 against Edmonton, February 14 against Vancouver, March 14 in Colorado, and April 4 in Edmonton.

There will also be four Flames games shown nationally across Canada on Sportsnet on a Wednesday. Those games are October 8 against Vancouver, October 15 in Chicago, December 31 against Edmonton and February 25 in New Jersey.

Finally, there will be four Flames games shown nationally across Canada on CITY TV on Sunday. Those games are October 19 in Winnipeg, November 2 in Montreal, December 14 in Chicago and March 8 in Ottawa.
