The Flames had recorded a point in each of the first five games of the National Hockey League season (3-0-2) before finally losing to Anaheim in southern California. Teeemu Selanne scored the game winning goal with 3:25 left in the second period as the Ducks improve to 5-1 on the season, and only two points back of the San Jose Sharks for first place in the Pacific Division.
Selanne is expected to retire at the end of the season after a sure hall of fame career. The Finnish Flash has 676 goals and 1434 points. A major reason Selanne kept playing this season was because he hopes to represent Finland one final time at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Finland has medaled in men's hockey at five of the last seven Olympic Winter Games, however has not won a gold medal.
The Flames countered with a shorthanded marker from Lee Stempniak in the first period and Jiri Hudler in the third period. They will next play in San Jose on Saturday.
