According to the Canadian Press, the Calgary Flames made some big news on Thursday by naming Brian Burke as their president of hockey operations. Ken King remains the Flames as president and chief executive officer.
It appears now the Flames have two people acting in a role as a general manager, with Jay Feaster continuing his role with the hockey club in the general managerial capacity with Burke being used as a primary consultant. Any major decisions will probably have to be agreed upon by both members, making the Flames front office a little cluttered. How much King's role decreases with the team from a hockey operations standpoint remains a little unclear.
However if it works, the team will be highly praised. If it doesn't, Feaster's role with the hockey club could be numbered.
Burke has prior managerial experience with the Anaheim Ducks, Hartford Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks. He won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007.
It is also interesting to note that Burke and Feaster are both American. Feaster is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Burke is from Providence, Rhode Island.
