The Calgary Flames had great resiliency Wednesday in Vancouver, but lost 3-2 to the Canucks in a shootout at the Rogers Arena. Down 2-0, the Flames scored twice in the second period on goals from Alex Tanguay and Mikael Backlund to salvage a point.
With the loss, the Flames are now two regulation losses and an overtime loss to start the season.
The Canucks got their goals from power forward Zack Kassian, Calgary native Mason Raymond and shootout goals from Kassian and Alexandre Burrows. One interesting observation was Alain Vigneault's decision to play Kassian frequently with Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
Jarome Iginla led the Flames with seven shots, but only won four of 11 faceoffs, according to Yahoo! Sports. One needs to ask Flames' Head Coach Bob Hartley why Iginla took 11 faceoffs when the right wing position is obviously his natural position.
The Flames, who registered their very first point of the 2013 National Hockey League regular season, now play the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
