But the 3-2 shootout loss by the Flames to Chicago (7-0-2) Saturday are as devastating as they come. Jay Bouwmeester scored with 35 seconds left to give Calgary a 2-1 lead, only to see Marian Hossa tie the game for Chicago at two with 2.1 seconds left. Patrick Kane then scored for Chicago in the shootout.
With the loss, Calgary falls to 1-3-2, worst in the Northwest, but psychologically, this is as difficult of a loss as they come in sports.
The Flames also dominated the play throughout the hockey game, outshooting Chicago 47-19 and a remarkable 24-6 in the third period alone. Lee Stempniak led the Flames with nine shots and Curtis Glencross, who had five shots, had may great scoring opportunities. However neither one could beat the hot Ray Emery, who was simply stellar.
Now, the Flames have a three game road trip where they will play Detroit, Columbus and Vancouver.
