Flames gut Warrensburg smokehouse

WARRENSBURG, NY -- The popular, 63-year-old Oscar’s Smokehouse was extensively damaged by fire Friday.

Robert Cleveland, an official with the Warrensburg Fire Department, said everyone escaped the blaze that began about 5:30 p.m. but termed the operation a total loss.

The fire apparently began in the two smokehouses on the property, then spread to the front store. The cause is under investigation. Lack of water pressure from hydrants hampered firefighting efforts.

Oscar’s Smokehouse, which supplied smoked meats and cheeses to numerous restaurants nationwide as well as to individual consumers, was created in 1946. It is owned by Jerry Quintal.
