Flames fire Feaster

According to the Canadian Press, the Calgary Flames have fired general manager Jay Feaster.

The news should come as no surprise because the Flames hired Brian Burke in the summer as their president of hockey operations to work closely with Feaster, and will assume the responsibility as acting general manager effective immediately.

Burke's general manager duties at the present time appear only temporary because he has apparently started the search for a permanent general manager.

Feaster's days as general manager in Calgary appeared numbered last season when he tried to sign restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly from the Colorado Avalanche. If the Avalanche had not matched the Flames' offer, the Flames would have had to put O'Reilly on waivers and lose their number one draft pick in 2013 because O'Reilly had played in the Kontinental Hockey League after the National Hockey League season began.

The Flames also fired assistant general manager John Weisbrod.
